dennree: ESG Compliance Throughout the Entire Supply Chain with VERSO

The dennree Group is the leading organic specialityb retailer in the German-speaking region. Through the VERSO Supply Chain Hub, dennree was able to establish successful supply chain transparency within a very short time, even in the deeper tiers of the supply chain, thereby meeting the requirements of the LkSG and other future relevant ESG regulations.

dennree

The dennree Group is the leading organic specialty retailer in the German-speaking region, headquartered in Töpen, Bavaria. Founded in 1974, the company group includes Denns BioMarkt, a specialist organic retail chain. With over 7,700 employees at more than 400 locations in Germany and Austria—including around 460 apprentices, dual students, and trainees—dennree continues to drive its success.

As a marketplace for producers, retailers, and customers, dennree offers an extensive organic product range with more than 14,000 items sourced from guaranteed organic farming. Through its own nationwide logistics system, the company supplies more than 1,200 organic markets across Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, and South Tyrol. This includes the BioMarkt Verbund, a network of over 530 independent BioMärkte and Denns BioMärkte in Germany and Austria, united under the umbrella brand „BioMarkt.“

The company name dennree is derived from French and means „staple food.“ It reflects the founding vision of Thomas Greim, who set out to make organic food accessible to everyone—“Organic for everyday life.“ For over 50 years, dennree has been committed to driving the organic movement holistically. The company demonstrates its dedication to diversity and responsibility through projects like the Hofgut Eichigt. Since 2015, this organic farm in Saxony’s Vogtland region has been part of the dennree Group and continues to evolve as a model for sustainable agriculture.

The Challenge at dennree

As a company in the organic food sector, sustainability has always been a core priority for dennree. However, with the introduction of the German Supply Chain Act (LkSG), supply chain transparency has become an even greater focus.

dennree works with numerous suppliers across 25 countries and has always maintained strong relationships with them through close collaboration on the requirements of the organic food market. However, more detailed information on suppliers and potential risks within the supply chain and upstream supply chain was now needed.

To address this, dennree sought a software partner for automated risk analysis and the execution of risk assessments. A key requirement was ensuring comprehensive compliance in all aspects of sustainability.

The solution

With VERSO, dennree has found the ideal partner. Using the VERSO Supply Chain Hub, dennree quickly achieved full supply chain transparency, even in deeper upstream supply chain tiers (Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3…). The platform ensures compliance with the requirements of the LkSG while also covering future regulatory developments.

dennree invited all relevant suppliers to join the platform, where they could register free of charge and automatically undergo a risk analysis. For suppliers operating in industries or regions with higher risk factors, specialized risk assessments were also conducted.

The result

And the outcome has been highly successful: Within just four months, the supplier response rate reached approximately 99%—out of 1,705 companies, 1,683 connected with dennree via the Supply Chain Hub. The results of the Maturity Assessments further underscore this success: 90% of suppliers provided the requested self-disclosures through their company profiles.
As a result, dennree now has a comprehensive overview of risks and the current state of sustainability within its supply chain. The company can now automate supplier monitoring and implement targeted improvement measures efficiently.

dennree wanted to go one step further—not just achieving transparency over its direct suppliers but also extending visibility into the upstream supply chain. The VERSO Supply Chain Hub made this possible by automatically integrating deeper-tier suppliers into the risk analysis and monitoring process.

A positive side effect of this initiative: dennree’s already strong relationships with its suppliers were further strengthened and deepened through the project. The increased transparency reinforces long-term partnerships built on mutual trust.

All of this was made possible through the efficient collaboration enabled by the Supply Chain Hub. dennree’s seamless integration of its procurement organization and suppliers was complemented by the user-friendly interface and intuitive processes of the VERSO platform. Additionally, VERSO’s Customer Success team provided a high-quality helpdesk and supported dennree throughout the entire onboarding process. Suppliers also expressed highly positive feedback regarding the platform’s ease of use and efficiency.

What comes next:

For dennree, one thing is clear: the Supply Chain Hub is now the standard tool for sustainability assessments and supplier monitoring—including sub-suppliers. It ensures compliance with LkSG requirements while also enabling the efficient management of future ESG regulations within a single platform.
Beyond regulatory compliance, dennree will continue using the VERSO Supply Chain Hub to further develop its sustainability initiatives, quickly identify risks, and implement effective mitigation measures.

We look forward to continuing our successful collaboration with dennree!
