DAT Chooses VERSO for ESG Reporting, Carbon Footprint, and Double Materiality

Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT) aims to integrate sustainability into its core business. A key milestone was the publication of its first voluntary sustainability report in line with the DNK, along with a carbon footprint assessment. Now, DAT is preparing for CSRD compliance—with support from VERSO.

DAT

Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT) is the neutral data authority for the automotive industry. As an internationally operating company, it collects comprehensive static and dynamic vehicle data in accordance with its mandate, processes this data, and makes it widely available to the industry—primarily through IT systems such as SilverDAT® and corresponding interfaces.

The challenge at DAT

DAT is aware of its social and environmental responsibility. That’s why the company has set itself an ambitious goal: integrating sustainability into its core business. A key step toward greater transparency and continuous improvement was the publication of its first voluntary sustainability report based on the DNK framework, along with a carbon footprint assessment.

The first report had to meet two key requirements: it needed to reflect the status quo for the reporting year 2023 while also enabling initial comparisons with previous years. For this reason, the carbon footprint also covered the year 2022. Additionally, an important task was to establish efficient processes and a centralized data collection system.

The solution

DAT has chosen VERSO as its partner for comprehensive sustainability management. Supported by VERSO Consultants, all relevant ESG data was collected in the ESG Hub, and a sustainability report was created. The Climate Hub was used to generate a carbon footprint across all three scopes in accordance with the established GHG Protocol and to track the progress of the decarbonization strategy.

Both software solutions are directly linked, allowing DAT to rely on a single source of truth.

The result

With VERSO, DAT has created its first DNK report. Today and in the future, the ESG Hub serves as the data foundation for sustainability management and reporting. The sustainability report was published as a dedicated website in the company’s corporate design and serves as a basis for future measures and strategies.

With the carbon footprint assessment, DAT has gained a comprehensive overview of its GHG emissions and potential levers for reduction—visualized in engaging graphics aligned with its corporate design. The climate consulting service has empowered the DAT team to independently calculate its CO₂ footprint in the future, implement climate targets and measures, and monitor progress. “Now we can gradually reduce our GHG emissions and track the development of our decarbonization strategy using the VERSO software,” explains Sustainability Manager Vivien Schultze.

Additionally, DAT was able to offset emissions directly through ClimateGrid, VERSO’s partner company for certified CO₂ compensation projects. These projects and the compensation process are seamlessly integrated into the VERSO software, eliminating the need for separate registration or data transfers.

What’s next:

DAT is now preparing for CSRD reporting and is leveraging a new VERSO tool: our AI-supported solution for the Double Materiality Analysis (DMA). The DMA forms the foundation for a CSRD-compliant ESG report. Our software enables companies to efficiently identify their material topics along with the associated impacts, risks, and opportunities (IROs) in a streamlined process. The time and cost savings achieved with the new VERSO solution have convinced DAT’s sustainability team.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration!
