including the CSRD.<br \/>\nYou can find all the details in our factsheet.   <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"snk-buttons snk-buttons_noGap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"snk-btn-primary\" href=\"https:\/\/content.verso.de\/csr-berichtspflicht-factsheet?hsCtaTracking=09f39fe5-d821-4b20-b2f0-3d5b9dc607b0%7C75cb5802-32a6-4df4-b478-fbf90a4e691a\"  target=\"_blank\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span>Download the CSRD factsheet<\/span><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\t\n\n\n\t<section class=\"snk-section snk-section_noBtn\">\n\t\t<div class=\"container\">\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"snk-textBlock\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"snk-section-headline\">The EU&#8217;s response: the Green Claims Directive<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To combat these practices, the EU Commission published a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/DE\/TXT\/?uri=COM%3A2023%3A0166%3AFIN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">draft<\/a> of the Green Claims Directive<\/strong> on March 22, 2023.<br \/>\nAlmost exactly one year later, on March 13, 2024, the European Parliament voted in favor of the Green Claims Directive with <strong>467 votes in favor<\/strong>, 65 against and 74 abstentions.<br \/>\nThe dossier will be pursued by the new Parliament after the European elections in June.<br \/>\nThe directive is part of the <strong>Circular Economy Action Plan<\/strong>, which also includes, for example, the recently adopted right to repair.<br \/>\nThe <strong>objectives<\/strong> of the new regulation:      <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Green statements<\/strong> throughout the EU should be <strong>reliable, comparable and verifiable<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>Consumers should be protected from <strong>greenwashing<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>The directive is intended to contribute to a <strong>circular and green EU economy<\/strong> by enabling consumers to make informed purchasing decisions;<\/li>\n<li>The aim is to create a level <strong>playing field<\/strong> with regard to the environmental performance of products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Which environmental claims are affected by the Green Claims Directive?<\/h3>\n<p>  The Green Claims Directive deals with statements in the context of<br \/>\n<strong>communication<\/strong> that indicate that a product or a company is   <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>has a positive or no impact on the environment,<\/li>\n<li>is less harmful to the environment than other products or companies or<\/li>\n<li>that its effect has improved over time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>  Experience has shown that environmental claims such as &#8220;<strong>green<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>climate-neutral<\/strong>&#8221; or &#8220;<strong>100% CO2-compensated<\/strong>&#8221; are often misleading and can easily mislead consumers.<br \/>\nThe EU wants to create more transparency with explicit regulations for <strong>climate-related claims<\/strong>, especially when it comes to CO2 offsetting projects and methods.   <\/p>\n<h3>Will &#8220;green claims&#8221; be banned?<\/h3>\n<p>  Companies are still encouraged to communicate about their sustainability activities or the sustainability of their products.<br \/>\nNevertheless, there are restrictions on how and what can be communicated.<br \/>\nFor example, it is important for <strong>sustainability labels<\/strong> to be based on a <strong>certification system<\/strong>, and general environmental claims are prohibited if there is no <strong>evidence<\/strong> of performance.<br \/>\nEnvironmental claims may also not be made for an entire product if they only relate to one aspect.<br \/>\nYou can find out which environmental claims companies need to pay particular attention to in the <a href=\"https:\/\/content.verso.de\/green-claims-directive-whitepaper\">white paper on the Green Claims Directive<\/a>.      <\/p>\n<h3>What are the consequences of the Anti-Greenwashing Directive for companies?<\/h3>\n<p>  The directive now requires companies to <strong>provide evidence of<\/strong> their environmental claims, have them independently <strong>audited<\/strong> and then <strong>communicate<\/strong> them transparently.<br \/>\nThose who do not comply with the directive can expect hefty <strong>fines<\/strong> and exclusion from public tenders.<br \/>\nWe have explained the specifics of the verification process, the differences to other laws and the possible consequences of non-compliance in detail in our <a href=\"https:\/\/content.verso.de\/green-claims-directive-whitepaper\">white paper<\/a>.    <\/p>\n<h3>What does the directive achieve against greenwashing?<\/h3>\n<p>  With the introduction of the new set of rules against greenwashing, consumers will once again be able to rely more on information in sustainability reports, on websites and on product packaging.<br \/>\nThe growing number of private eco-labels will be restricted if the label is awarded on the basis of unsubstantiated claims.<br \/>\nThis way, consumers will no longer have to wade through a jungle of eco-labels.<br \/>\nRestricting greenwashing also means that <strong>competition<\/strong> will be <strong>fairer<\/strong>.<br \/>\nCompanies that really want to make a difference will get more attention and an advantage on the market.<br \/>\nAnd, of course, our planet will benefit if companies actually drive forward the <strong>sustainable transformation<\/strong>.     <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/section>\n\n\t\n\n\n\t<section class=\"snk-section snk-section_noBtn\">\n\t\t<div class=\"container\">\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"snk-textBlock\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"snk-section-headline\">We support you with your sustainability communication<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>VERSO supports the EU project to curb greenwashing.<br \/>\nIn this context, we also advise you and your company on sustainability communication.<br \/>\nOur sustainability consultants will help you to publish meaningful information while remaining truthful &#8211;
